3 March 2006

2 years ago today I had a heart by-pass operation in the Golden Jubilee Hospital, Clydebank.

That time has passed so incredibly quickly.

I was off work for 5 months after the operation, but I have now been back at work for 19 months and am none the worse for it.

Before the by-pass, I had severe difficulty geting from my arm-chair to the door of the sitting-room. Now, while it’s true that I am never again going to be sprinting along the High Street (did I ever?), I can walk fairly lengthy distances with minimal discomfort.

I had the operation at 2pm on 3 March and I went home, a new man, on the morning of 8 March. I still think that was semi-miraculous.

The care I had in the Clydebank hospital was superb,  and of course, the surgeon who operated on me, Mr Campanella, is incomparable. The more time that passes, the more I realise and appreciate what they gave me.
